Happy Birthday Tita Cory!

Today is former President Corazon Aquino's 80th Birthday. Though we all know she's dead, we celebrate her birthday anyways.

Corazon C. Aquino was born in Paniqui, Tarlac. She was the 11th President of the Philippines and the first woman to hold the office. She came into power after the bloodless EDSA revolution of 1986, which restored democracy in the country. As Commander-in-Chief, she defended this democracy, withstanding several coup attempts through her term, which lasted from February 25, 1986 to June 30, 1992.

Yes, once upon a time in our history there were a lot of Jews in the Philippines around 1,200 of them that fled Nazi Germany.

Here's an interesting post by Chuvaness : How President Quezon Saved More Than 1,200 Jews
“Rescue in The Philippines” is documentary about 5 Jewish brothers and Cincinnati businessmen making two-for-a-nickel cigars in pre-WWII Manila, together with President Manuel Quezon, Paul McNutt and Dwight Eisenhower -  helped 1,200 Jews escape the Nazis and immigrate to the Philippines.

MMDA: Deceiving Road Signs on EDSA Santolan UTurn Slot

Taken from the FB page of Mr. Bel Sayson. Public Service lang po, drivers need to know about this and also FYI MMDA is doing something about already. Thank God for Social Media:

On your way to Greenhills/La Salle via northbound EDSA? If you plan to take the U-turn under B. Serrano Avenue (near Camp Crame), be careful. As you can see in the photos, the EDSA road signs leading to the U-turn say that ALL private vehicles are ALLOWED to take the U-turn that will take them to southbound EDSA leading to Greenhills and La Salle.

But the truth is this is only allowed from 5:00PM to 6:00AM only. See the big blank green paint under “U Turn Allowed”? They painted the sign “Only from 5:00PM to 6:00AM” using a similar shade of GREEN color too to confuse the motorists! By the time you enter the lane, it’s too late and that’s the only time you can visibly read the allowed time period. By then, MMDA personnel are just waiting for you under the bridge to flag you down.

This has been going on for months with private vehicles as victims. The simple solution is just to replace the signs.

But MMDA has taken action via Twitter regarding the EDSA signage:

From MMDA Facebook page: Regarding the post going around about confusing signage at EDSA Santolan Uturn slot and MMDA enforcers allegedly preying on motorists in that area, the matter has been forwarded to both EDSA enforcement heads and to Traffic Engineering Center. The signages will be modified to relay a clearer message.

Now at any time of the day you can make a u-turn goin' south bound.

January 26, 2013 is Early Registration Day for Philippine Public Schools for the Year 2013-2014

Consider it the Department of Education's iwas siksikan sa enrollment initiative, the nationwide early registration on January 26 of students in all public elementary and secondary schools is a good move to accomodate and get a head count of all school-aged children.

Philippine DepEd's Secretary Armin Luistro said “We want to make the June school opening as smooth as possible and as universally participated in as possible, that is why we are doing the preparation as early as January.”

The early registration aims to ensure five-year olds' enrolment in kindergarten and six-year-olds' registration for Grade 1 and to get the out-of-school children and youths from disadvantaged groups, including street children aged 5 to 18 off the streets.

Police Checkpoints in the Philippines

An advisory on Police Checkpoints in the Philippines by GMA News TV As the May elections draw near and with the Comelec gun ban now in place, more checkpoints will be installed around the country, creating numerous interactions between police and citizens. The carnage in Atimonan at a dubious checkpoint does not inspire confidence that all police checkpoints are set up to protect the public.

This infographic describes what a PNP checkpoint should look like.

MGA DAPAT TANDAAN SA POLICE CHECKPOINTS:
